This is one of the worst movie I have ever seen. You laugh not because it's meant to be funny...

Well, I'm not a fairweather fan, so I'll stick by Kurosawa and see "Loft"; but, it sure ain't soundin' good.... Shucks!

Good call, David. Loft was the seventh Kiyoshi Kurosawa film I've seen, and by far the most incomprehensible and least interesting. I could have walked out had I not thought the other six works were so fresh, complex and focused. It's like Cronenberg deciding to helm The Ring 19, it just doesn't make sense.

Being disappointed in Kiyoshi is still a worthwhile experience, though. I'm not crazy about "Charisma" or "Pulse", though it might have been the shaft of light I was sitting in, who knows? "Bright Future" was my first love and "Cure" clinched it. I actually got him to autograph my dvd cover of "Cure" when he was here in SF with "Doppelganger."

He's a favorite of mine too, which made Loft all the more disappointing.

Loft played at the Film Comment Selects series at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center in NY.

David, thanks for the review. Kiyoshi Kurosawa is one of my favorite directors and I am very much looking forward to "Loft", even though I stand cautioned of its limitations. Where were you lucky enough to catch a screening?
