Our semi-regular round-up of what is new in Indian cinema. ![]() The big news this week is the sentencing of star Sanjay Dutt to six years in prison for his illegal possession of weapons connected with terrorist bombings in 1993. I can’t say I’m a Dutt fan who will take this personally (I don’t watch the Pak-bashing action films, and recent films like Musafir and Kaante were pretty weak) , but that is some serious time. Dutt is already appealling - we’ll see where that goes. ::: Indian Actor Dutt Sentenced to 6 Years ::: Bollywood actor Dutt appeals against 6-yr jail term Animation has never been a major industry in Bollywood. However, there is a new trend to include some animated segments in live films. Aalavandhan [aka Abhay] would be the go-to example for this, with its lengthy drug-induced, Roger Rabbit-inspired freakouts including a live, sinister Ronald McDonald and whip-wielding seductresses leaping out of posters. Now, new film Cash is putting in an even longer segment. ::: Cash has 20 minutes of animation The teaser trailer for the new Rajni movie (advertised as “Superstar Rajnikanth in & as - Sultan“) is available. Looks like it could be entertaining as long as it isn’t serious, which it isn’t likely to be. ::: Sultan Trailer Finally, here’s a little treat for fans of actress Sridevi, who we at CSB have loved in films like Mr. India, Nagina, and Sherni. She was recently spotted by a reader of Rediff lunching in town. Filed under: Movie News and Movie News: Bollywood and Movie News: India and Bollywood News Round-up and People: Sridevi Comments:
